HARNESSING THE POWER OF AUSTRALIAN NATURE
One thing Australia is most associated with apart from flip flops and beaches, is Nature. Think, The Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Kakadu National Park and wildlife that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. As our lives get busier, it’s become even more important to bring yourself back to Nature – to reconnect. But committing to more time in Nature isn’t always the easy option. With this in mind, here are 5 super easy ways to integrate Nature into your everyday hustle and bustle.1. Spend more time outdoorsEver feel an unexplainable joy and serenity when you’re amongst Nature? It’s because humans inherently crave Nature. Biologist E.O Wilson said that contact with Nature is critical to our well-being as regular exercise and a healthy diet. Despite being surround by so much beauty in Nature, we often forget to take it in. Experiencing Nature can be as simple as taking a walk through the park on your way to and from work, taking an outdoor yoga class or soaking up some vitamin D on your lunch break.2. Use a botanical mistIf you can’t physically go out into Nature, you can reconnect at your office desk, in a muggy train or before bed with a few spritzes of a botanical mist. Our Rosewater Balancing Mist is packed with biodynamically* farmed ingredients that deliver an undiluted force of Nature to your skin. Spritz whenever you feel like you need a refresh or feel isolated from Nature and you’ll be instantly transported into a blooming field of fresh roses.3. Use natural skin care productsNature can be powerful in the way it promotes calmness and well-being in our daily lives, and it can also be powerful in the way it rejuvenates our skin. Using skin care products with natural ingredients throughout your skin care ritual is one of the easiest ways to reconnect with Nature since you’re already practicing it daily. In the morning when you cleanse your skin, use a natural-based cleanser like our Nutri-Define Supreme Cleansing Foam. It contains Spilanthes Extract, which is grown, harvested and extracted at the Jurlique farm to guarantee purity and effectiveness. Try not rush the process and slowly massage the product onto your face in a gently circular motion aligning with the natural rhythm of nature.4. Prime your space for relaxationThe reformulated range is all down to Biosome6, a revolutionary new liposome technology that harnesses nature’s most potent natural ingredients to fight the signs of ageing. It’s a unique delivery system that is a micro-dispersion of the six botanical plant extracts from the Jurlique Farm. Discover everything you need to know about Biosome6 below – and how it will upgrade your anti-ageing skin care. The sounds and scents of nature are unlike no other. They give us the sense of comfort, restore our moods and revitalise our senses. Natural candles and diffusers will help you replicate all of those feels. Palm Beach Collection is a family owned and run Australian business that is passionate about creating beautiful fragrances inspired by Australia’s coastal landscape. With up to 80 hours burn time, Palm Beach Collection’s Sea Salt Candle is a nod to Sydney’s Palm Beach. The hand poured natural soy candles contain top notes of Lemon and heart notes of Eucalyptus and Jasmine, a scent that epitomises days of endless strolls along the beachside.5. Fill your home with plantsThe quality of the air inside is not always the best. Whether it’s from buildup of pollution from your outside clothes or limited ventilation, nothing beats good old fresh air. Luckily you can purify the air in your home with indoor plants. While it’s widely known that Indoor plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, they also remove harmful gases from the air.Plant in ceramic pot

Author, illustrator and creative Caitlyn Everett is the brains behind Sunday Lane, a small Brisbane-based business that inspires us daily with its modern, whimsical zodiac illustrations and verses. In celebration of our latest Adriana Picker-designed limited-edition products – Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition and Jurlique Rose Luxe Edition Hand Cream – we spoke to Caitlyn about her own creative process and how she incorporates the products into her own daily routine.Tell us about your work and what you do?I am the owner of Sunday Lane, a store and studio that centres on modern-day poetry, or affirmation and inspired gifting. We are best known for our zodiac collection, a blend of verses of powerful musings and illustration. I am the dreamer behind the brand, an author, illustrator, creative. How did you get into this position?I was working full time for a beautiful small business, and I mean, I was working myself into the ground. I gave everything I had into my work and I honestly wasn't really looking or searching for more. Sunday Lane was born by chance, a personal project turned business idea and it wasn't until it began taking off that I became discontent. I feel like I got a taste of life as my own boss and I worked really hard at it before I felt like I could back myself and quit my job.Woman’s hand resting on magazine next to tube of Jurlique hand creamDescribe your process when it comes to your work - how do you tackle a new project?Every project I've worked on has been such a learning process for me. In the beginning it was all energy and excitement and I would work 18-hour days to get new designs out but having my son, Morgan has helped me slow down. I am also more aware of my brand, who we are and where we are heading now. Our most recent project, the Zodiac 03 collection, was months of planning and research, of illustrating and writing. We also brought on a local press studio, so we really had to accept and embrace the beauty of handmade. It was such a blessing to work with such a knowledgeable and talented artist on an artform completely out of my comfort zone. What challenges do you face in your work?My biggest challenge has been defining and enforcing a work/life balance. The reality of being a small business is that we are almost always working, in store, at home, at night and on weekends. It is very hard to switch off and part of me doesn't want to. It is my passion and I love to pour myself into my work. Having a young family has made me want to be able to switch off more. When you're experiencing a creative block, how do you get out of it?To get away from my screen and remove myself from the overstimulation of the online world. It is so easy to get caught up in it all. It's a never-ending rabbit hole.In my worst hours, or days of creative block the only thing that has helped is time, and moments away from work. My biggest lesson is that creativity comes in waves and it cannot be forced. If I trust the process, the magic will follow.Tube of Jurlique hand cream on plate next to gold rings What advice would you give to others who are looking to explore their creativity?Trust your gut and be prepared to put in the work.I dropped out of teaching to study interior design at college and in a roundabout way it got me to where I am today. If I hadn't taken the gigantic leap who knows where I would be. Of course, it is easier said than done and I was definitely someone that had a plan b. I think it is a little romantic to say I went into it with blind faith and just crossed my fingers it would work. I had a home and a family I needed to support. I worked really hard to make it my reality.Talk us through how you use your Jurlique products throughout your day?Everyone who knows me knows I am terrible with my skin care routine. Jurlique has been an absolute blessing and I've actually been carrying these products with me every day between our studio and the store. The Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition is such a low maintenance solution for someone who is time poor and both of these beauties have really helped bring me back to life after long nights preparing our new collections. They are the perfect addition to my very short morning and night routine.
Read moreTHE ROLE OF BEES ON OUR FARM, AND WHY THEY MATTER
At Jurlique, the power of Nature is at the heart of everything we do. The clean air and soil of the Adelaide Hills is what brought our co-founders, Jurgen and Ulrike Klein, to South Australia and why they chose it as the birthplace of Jurlique. We believe the rich biodynamic* soil on our biodynamic* farm enables our plants to be the most powerful and potent they can be, and that we can capture that life force in our exclusive Bio-Intrinsic method. 0:28 We believe by following biodynamic* farming techniques, we’re harnessing all the positive, living energies from Nature, as well as farming in the most sustainable way possible. Biodynamics* is an all-encompassing approach to farming and uses the sun, moon, stars and planets of Earth to bring about balance and healing, treating the farm as a living organism – one that’s self-contained and self-sustainable. Organic farming is defined by its use of organic fertilisers. Biodynamic* also adheres to these principles but while organic permits imported fertilisers, biodynamic* requires that a farm produce its own fertility as much as possible through the rotation of crops, with no outside inputs. There’s a lot that goes on at our farm but one of the most important roles is that of the bees in our beehives. Bees are essential in pollinating and propagating the plants and flowers. It’s their round-the-clock toil that promotes floral growth and sustains the vast volumes of concentrated botanicals on our farm. Pam Cherry, our Herb Farm Coordinator who has worked at the Jurlique Farm since 2005, says: “The bees send out scouts every morning and find what’s flowering. And they do wiggly dances and they’ll wiggle in the direction that everyone’s got to fly to. All the workers will then know where to fly to and they’ll all forage around. Some things have a lot of nectar, some have pollen, some have both. They’re amazing, the amount of work that they do. “Being a no-waste and biodynamic* farm means we are responsible for caring for the whole farm as a unit. Each part we care for – be it the soil, water or bees – is creating a healthy vitality. The end result flows through to our products,” explains Pamela. According to a report compiled by Greenpeace, bees are paramount for ensuring sustainable crop production. Bees don’t just help us with our crops either – by following biodynamic* farming practices, we’re promoting biodiversity and safeguarding bees. The report cites scientific studies that have shown that chemical-intensive industrial agriculture is implicated in the decline of bees and pollination, with fertilisers, herbicides and insecticides having a negative impact on bee health. To find out more about the sustainable practices on our Jurlique Farm, read our Sustainability Report *Certified biodynamic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia. For every bottle[i] of Activating Water Essence sold in August 2020, we’ll nurture a tree seedling on our Jurlique Farm and plant it at Cudlee Creek, South Australia, to help rejuvenate the bushfire-affected area.Regenerating our landFrom September 2019 to March 2020, devastating bushfires swept through Australia, destroying land, wildlife, homes and livelihoods. One area that was badly affected was Cudlee Creek, only 38km from our Jurlique Farm in the Adelaide Hills. It was declared an emergency disaster area in December 2019, with fires burning through 23,000 hectares and destroying hundreds of homes and buildings.Tree Planting DayAt Jurlique, sustainability has always been fundamental to everything we do. By following biodynamic* practices on our Jurlique Farm, we farm in the most sustainable way possible and will always give more back to the Earth than we take out of it.One of our initiatives is our annual Tree Planting Day, which has seen our staff plant more than 12,000 carefully selected native trees at our farm in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, and globally, since 2012. These trees improve our carbon footprint, enhance the area’s biodiversity and natural waterways, and provide natural, chemical-free protection for our organically grown botanicals.Due to COVID-19 restrictions we have decided not to do an all staff Tree Planting Day this year. Instead, in support of National Tree Day on 2nd August, and as part of our broader sustainability efforts, we will nurture a tree seedling on our Jurlique Farm for every bottle of Activating Water Essence sold, and then plant those seedlings at Cudlee Creek in 2021.We’ve partnered with Trees for Life, a South Australia-based not for profit organisation working to restore and protect South Australian landscapes. They have researched and collected seeds from the most badly affected plants, enabling us to nurture seedlings from the tree species that have been affected by the fires most.Help regenerate Cudlee Creek by purchasing a bottle of Activating Water Essence online or find your nearest Jurlique store.*Certified biodynamic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia. This Lunar New Year, Jurlique is thrilled to partner with a multidisciplinary artist who embodies our philosophy of working in harmony with nature. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Raku Inoue uses various methods and techniques to create works featuring organic materials like flowers, leaves and stems of various flora species1 – many of which are gathered in his back garden2. Inspired by the same botanical beauty as Jurlique, he feels a strong connection to nature, a sense of belonging, of peace and happiness2. Raku performs a special role, in connecting art and nature he works in harmony with his surrounds. He understands the process of creation and the cycle of life, and tells the story of a dragonfly that, when he was a child, would visit his grandmother. "From time to time, a dragonfly would fly into the living room, and my grandmother would always say it was her late husband reincarnated paying a visit. As a young kid, I was told everything eventually returns to nature. So evidently, his visits were symbolic and had a great influence on how I live today. As my grandmother would say, life is precious, during and even in the afterlife and through nature, we get to see this every day2" Nature has taught Raku about love and appreciation. He understands the importance to which organic materials must be treated with care and respect – giving his projects back to the soil once completed so the cycle of life can continue2. It is these sentiments that Jurlique shares with Raku. From our certified biodynamic* farming methods to our support of a healthy ecosystem that contributes to each of our products, we each work to awaken the life force of nature. Experimenting with different concepts, Raku first assembled Jurlique’s botanical ingredients into a form of tapestry inspired by pollinating species found on flower farms2. Refining his ideas, Raku has taken inspiration from rose varieties, grown on our farm in South Australia, to create exquisite patterns exclusively for the Lunar New Year edition of our Jurlique Body Oil. Raku’s patterns of light and delicate shapes are not only a devotion to nature’s craft but to the Rosa gallica extract in our Exclusive Edition Rose Body Oil that has been planted, handpicked and extracted with uncompromising care. *Certified biodynamic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia. Born in Tokyo, Japan, and now based in Montreal, Canada, Raku creates art from the natural beauty that surrounds him. Inspired from the nature he has foraged; he transforms flowers, petals and stems into beautiful works of art. Often gathered from his own back garden, Raku’s creations are elevated by botanical beauty and celebrate the life force of nature. Inspired by our belief in a healthy eco system and working in harmony with nature, we sat down with Raku to discuss his work on our new Five Roses Exclusive Edition. What was your inspiration when working on the Exclusive Edition Mist and Hand Cream Five Roses for Jurlique? The source of inspiration for the mist and hand cream was its ingredients and the environment in which they are produced. The lush biodiversity and the care that Jurlique has for their farm in Australia was very inspiring. The idea of incorporating different pollinators – butterflies and ladybugs – seemed like a great concept since they are essential to maintaining good health and ensuring the longevity of the environment. It is an homage to the wildlife that inhabits the beautiful Jurlique farm Who are the women that inspire your work? My grandmother has been a big influence on my affinity for insects. She often took me to the local park to hunt for beetles and cicadas during summer. She would teach me a lot through these creatures such as value of life. Even small insects desire to live a fulfilled life. She has also taught me to recognise various species that inhabit Japan, and that's when I realised that there were so many with distinctive characteristics. I am hoping to bring that out through my creations Where do you see a connection between your work and Jurlique? Both Jurlique and I share the same love and respect for nature and what it offers us in terms of materials and humanity's wellbeing in general. We constantly take so much from nature so anything that we can do in order to give back is mandatory. Whether it's to open discussions or to create initiatives, we both agree that action is the most important step toward nature's conservation and the continuation of all life forms towards a better future. This season we’ve launched two exclusive products that celebrate our remarkable history with roses. The hero ingredients that comprise our Exclusive Edition Rosewater Balancing Mist Five Roses and Exclusive Edition Hand Cream Five Roses derive from five very distinctive and different roses: Rosa gallica, Rosa rugosa, Rosa centifolia, Rosa canina and Rosa damascena. Knowing how much time and effort has gone into these products, we are all so proud of the end result, it is simply stunning. Our Five Roses are lovingly grown on the Jurlique farm. It’s also a biodynamic* farm, following holistic and sustainable farming practices that naturally look after plant health and the soil, ensuring nothing harmful goes into the earth. The rose is also the Queen of plants so she deserves the very best, and preparation is key. Here, we’ll introduce you to each member of our Five Roses family – sharing their individual traits that have been loved by generations. THE HERO ROSE Firstly, the Rosa gallica is our staple rose. A unique ingredient in almost all of our skin care formulas, the Rosa gallica is known for a deep velvety rose scent and helps to moisturise and hydrate the skin. We have been growing Rosa gallica’s since Jurlique started in 1985. They repeat flower from October until April producing over one tonne of rose petals. Picked by hand lovingly and knowingly by the Jurlique farm team, it is our favourite time of year. The additional four roses were planted on the Jurlique Farm in winter of 2018. It took three years of tender care, weeding, feeding, pruning and delicately harvesting each precious petal for this rare and wonderful exclusive-edition launch. However, the four roses are very different from one another: rugosa for its candy-like scent (which would make a lovely ingredient for cooking); canina for its white, lemony coloured centre; centifolia for its powdery, mild fragrance; and damascena for its intense and high-quality essential oil. THE SWEET ROSE Rosa rugosa, Roseraie de L’Hay, bred in 1901, almost smells like candy as it dries, and would taste wonderful in cakes and rose syrup. It has a dark fuchsia colour, is low growing and repeat flowers. It has very unique leaf which makes it easy to identify. THE ARTIST’S ROSE Rosa centifolia, Fantin Latour, was named after Henri Fantin-Latour, a French painter best known for his flower paintings and specifically roses. It has a mild powdering scent and is a medium sized shrub. It loves to be pruned after it flowers, which then increases its growth and blooms for the next season. This is a once off flowering rose, with one flush of blooms in early summer. THE WHITE ROSE Rosa canina, Madame Legras de St Germain, has been around since this mid 1800’s. It is the only white rose we grow at the Jurlique Farm and has a beautiful lemony centre. An extremely thorny bush, it only flowers in later spring, early summer and almost looks like a Camellia flower with an array of folding petals. THE ESSENTIAL ROSE Rosa damascena, Trigintipetala, bred in 1850, is the first rose bush to flower at the Jurlique Farm. It has a light but enveloping scent that lingers. It is the rose known to produce very high quality essential rose oil. Cherie Hutchinson, Farm Production Manager, has been part of the Jurlique family for nearly 10 years.
